Smoothie Remedies

All recipes are designed to be used in a NutriBullet or blender.  Coconut water has been suggested for all of the recipes due to it’s amazing healing, flavour enhancing and nutritional boosting properties but it can be substituted for filtered water or nut milks if preferred. Use organic produce where possible. The smoothies containing fruit are best eaten in between meals as fruit digests a lot quicker than other foods so is always best eaten on it’s own. All recipes are dairy free.


immmunsystemboosterImmune System Booster

1 lemon
1 tsp raw honey
1 cup cucumber
1 apple
1 stem lemongrass
2 inch piece of ginger
coconut water to mix

Remove the outer layers of the lemongrass and cut into chunks.

Halve the lemon and squeeze out the lemon juice. Peel the ginger. Roughly chop the rest of ingredients .
Top up with coconut water. Blitz all ingredients until smooth.

Nutritional info: The lemon and cucumber contain anti-oxidants and immune-boosting Vitamin C, lemongrass is naturally antibacterial and anti-inflammatory and helps to detoxify the lymphatic system. Apples are highly anti-inflammatory and also contain quercetin which can help strengthen the immune system, especially in times of stress. Ginger and coconut water are both highly anti viral and antibacterial and raw honey has amazing antibiotic, antiviral, antiseptic and anticancer properties. Raw honey provides many more benefits that regular honey as it hasn’t been processed and is left full of active enzymes along with disease preventing vitamins, minerals and amino acids.

Bloat Busterbloat buster smoothie

2 inch piece of ginger (peeled)
1 papaya (de-seeded)
1 cup pineapple
coconut water to mix

Peel the ginger and peel and roughly chop the rest of the ingredients. Add to the blender with the coconut water and blitz until smooth.

Nutritional info : Ginger is naturally anti-spasmodic, which helps to calm down digestive issues. Papaya contains the natural enzyme papain which is great for digestion. Pineapple contains the natural enzyme bromelain which also aids digestion and helps to combat inflammation.

Natural Fibre Booster

4 dates
1 medium avocado
1 tbsp chai seeds (ideally soaked for 10 mins in 3 tbsp water)
1 medium apple
coconut water to mix

De-stone the dates. Peel the avocado and de-stone. Roughly chop the apple. Add ingredients to blender, top-up with coconut water and whizz together.
Nutritional info :  Dates are great source of natural fibre and also help to sweep the digestive system of harmful bacteria. Avocados are very anti-inflammatory and have a calming effect on the gut as well as providing a healthy amount of natural fibre. Chia seeds are a great source of fibre, antioxidants, minerals and Omega-3 fatty acids. The fibre in the seeds absorbs large amounts of water which forms a gel and expands in the stomach which helps to generate feelings of fullness. Apples contain pectin – the ultimate colon cleanser.

This recipe provides around 27mg of fibre which is just under the RDA of 30mg.

Weight Loss Helper

1 cup cherries – fresh or frozen
1 apple
1/2 pomegranate ( seeds only)
1 tbsp chai seeds
coconut water to mix

De-stone the cherries if necessary. Remove the apple core and roughly chop. Cut the pomegranate in half and bash out the seeds using the back of a spoon. Put all the ingredients into the blender along with the chai seeds and coconut water. Blitz until smooth.

Nutritional info: Cherries are natural appetite suppressants and are a great weight-loss aid. They are also an excellent source of trace minerals such as zinc and iron and are great for overall detoxing and cleansing. Apples contain a soluble fibre called pectin and this provides bulk which aids digestion and helps to regulate blood sugar. Pomegranate seeds contain anthocyanins – special flavonoids that are helpful for weight loss. Pomegranates are also rich in fibre which helps to promote fullness. Chai seeds are also high in fibre and plant protein and they absorb water when eaten which means they expand in the stomach and create a full-up feeling. The electrolytes in the coconut water help with energy levels.

Alkaliser

25g  parsley
2 sticks celery
1 cup cucumber
juice of a lemon
coconut water to mix

Add ingredients to blender and whizz until smooth.

Nutritional info: Parsley is not only extremely alkalising but is also rich in minerals and is a great detoxifier. Celery and cucumber are both extremely alkalising, healing and detoxifying and packed full of essential trace minerals. Lemons create alkalinity in the body and are also full of antioxidant flavonoids. Coconut water is a great alkaliser along with being a rich source of electrolytes.

energysmoothieEnergy Booster

1 cup spinach
1 banana
1 cup parsley
1 cup grapes
1 tbsp coconut oil
coconut water to mix

Add all ingredients to blender and top-up with coconut water. Blitz until smooth

Nutritional info : Spinach is a great source of iron which is needed by our blood cells to produce oxygen for energy. Bananas contain a healthy balance of glucose, fructose and sucrose so they can give you energy whilst keeping blood sugar levels stable. Parsley is a great energiser packed full of nutrition. Grapes promote health and energy levels and are loaded with phytochemicals.  Coconut oil is made of up of medium chain fatty acids and these are sent directly to the liver to be converted into immediate energy. Coconut water contains energy boosting electrolytes including magnesium and potassium.

Fruit Calcium Booster fruitcalciumsmoothie

3 oranges
1 lemon
1 tbsp sesame seeds
raw honey to sweeten if required
coconut water to mix

Peel the oranges and squeeze out the juice of the lemon. Add ingredients to blender and top-up with coconut water. Blitz until smooth.

Nutritional info : Oranges and lemons provide the body with a highly absorbable form of calcium and sesame seeds are also extremely high in calcium along with other trace minerals such as copper and magnesium. This recipe provides just under 300mg calcium – around the same as a glass of milk and just under a third of the RDA. This recipe also provides around 250mg of vitamin C.

 

Veggie Calcium Booster 

1 and  1/2 cups kale (or baby kale) leaves
2 carrots
1 tbsp sesame seeds
2 tbsp almond butter
juice of a lemon
coconut water to mix
Add all ingredients to the blender and  top-up with coconut water. Blitz until smooth.

Nutritional info : Kale is an excellent source of calcium. Almond butter and sesame seeds are also extremely high in calcium and are abundant in essential trace minerals such as magnesium, copper, phosphorous, iron and zinc. Lemons contain an easily absorbable form of calcium. This recipe provides around 400mg calcium – more than a glass of milk and just under half the RDA.

vitcsmoothieVitamin C Booster

1 cup strawberries
1/2 cup pineapple
2 kiwi
coconut water to mix

Add ingredients to the blender and top-up with coconut water. Blitz until smooth.
Nutritional info : Kiwis are one of the best sources of vitamin C, they and also contain over 40 trace minerals and are great for digestion and for keeping blood sugar levels stable. Strawberries are a great source of Vitamin C and trace minerals and can also help to curb hunger and keep blood sugar levels stable. Pineapple is also very high in Vitamin C and also contains the enzyme bromelain which helps ease digestion and inflammation. This recipe provides around 240mg of vitamin C which is treble the RDA.

Skin Cleanser

1 papaya
1/2 cucumber
1/2 cup berries
coconut water to mix

Add ingredients to blender and top-up with coconut water. Blitz until smooth.

Nutritional info:  Papaya is rich in vitamins, minerals and carotenoids which help improve skin conditions and help give the skin a healthy glow. Cucumber is hydrating at cellular level and rich in vitamins and minerals. Berries are very rich in antioxidants making them great anti-aging foods for the skin.

moodboostsmoothieMood Lifter

1 banana
1 mango
1 tbsp organic cocoa powder
1 kiwi
1/2 cup cashews  or 1 tbsp cashew butter
coconut water to mix

Add all ingredients to blender and blitz until smooth.

Nutritional info :  Bananas and contain high levels of tryptophan which is converted into serotonin – the happiness neurotransmitter. Mangos can help with depression and seasonal affective disorder. Dark chocolate contains endorphins which create a positive feeling in the body. Along with cashews, dark chocolate is a rich source of magnesium which is known to lift mood and energy levels. Cashews also contain high levels of  tryptophan, enough to alter and elevate your mood. Kiwis are great for easing fatigue and depression. The magnesium in the coconut water  can also help with mood and stress levels.
